about AQG

Our History

Our guild held its first meeting on September 27, 2004. Currently, we have 80+ members and are quickly growing.

Our Meetings

We traditionally meet the 3rd Monday of every month from September to June (except for December) from 7-9pm. Meetings are normally held at the Almonte Civitan Club (500 Almonte St, Almonte, ON – see map below).

Unfortunately at this time, given COVID-19, we are utilizing Zoom to gather and inspire our individual and collective quilting journeys.  We plan on making our June 2022 meeting the first of a hybrid format, so those who are unable to join us in person (near or far), can join us virtually.

AQG Meetings and activities

Our meetings and activities typically include the following:

Guest Speakers

Whether locally sourced or from literally across the globe, we strive to bring in a variety of guest speakers to inspire and instruct our guild members.

Raffle & 50/50 Draws

We help support our guild by purchasing optional raffles and/or 50/50 draw tickets. Quilt kits are often the prize of choice for the raffle and are raffled off three times a year. Draws for the 50/50 occur every month.

Mystery Quilt

Back by popular demand, we will be having another mystery quilt project this year. Follow along each month clue-by-clue as our Mystery Quilt Leader takes us on an adventure that results in a finished top. No commitment, but if you want to participate, please add your name to our AQG Mystery Quilt Clue e-mailing list.

President’s Challenge

Every January, our Guild President provides everyone with a little challenge to do. These never fail to be fun, and the results are never dull!

Quilt Workshops

Take a day or two and learn something new! Quilt Workshops are an opportunity to meet with fellow AQG members, along with a fantastic guest instructor, to learn something new. These are optional and a fun way for new and experienced quilters to expand their horizons.

AQG Showcase

Our Show and Tell portion of the evening is a chance to celebrate your fellow guild members’ accomplishments and to serve as inspiration for each other.

Charity Quilts

Almonte Quilters Guild members make several quilts every year and donate them to local charities. Help complete these quilts by donating blocks, quilting the quilts or finishing them off with the binding. Feel free to ask our Charity Quilts director any questions you may have.

Almonte General Hospital Quiltie Program

Use your scraps and leftover blocks and create a 24”x24” quilt to be gifted to each new baby born at our local hospital. Quilts are most appreciated when they are made with cotton fabric, backed with flannel, and have a label attached. Our Quilties director will be happy to answer any questions you may have about this program and provide labels that are to be attached before you bring them in to be donated.

Quilt Retreats

When the COVID-19 pandemic allows us to safely do so, we will hold a guild retreat. This is an in-person event that does have a fee, but it covers a venue and food for 2.5 days of quilting fun. Space is usually limited, and we sell out every time. Plans are already in the works for one in our upcoming 2021-2022 season.

More information on all these wonderful activities is available on the Member-Only pages for this website. Once you join up, just log in to see all the wonderful content our guild has to share.
